The South Korean film industry has faced a downturn over the past few years, leading more Korean celebrities to pursue parts in mainstream Hollywood films. Rain was in "Speed-racer," Lee Byung Hun is in the new "G.I. Joe" movie, and Daniel Henney is in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which was released nationally on May 1.

Henney, born in 1979 to a British father and a Korean-American mother, works in South Korea as a model and actor. After finding success in TV commercials and print ads, Henney turned to acting, launching his career with the series "My Name is Kim Sam Soon," a hit that sparked a trend of including Korean-American actors in Korean shows. He has also appeared in "Spring Waltz," (the last of the "season" series: "Autumn Story," "Winter Sonata" and "Summer Scent"). From there he moved to film, and was in the Korean films "My Father" and "Seducing Mr. Perfect." Many of these roles required him to speak English and limited his Korean-language lines. Not only are his bilingual skills useful in Korea, as a native English speaker, Henney's fluency gives him an advantage over many Korean celebrities who are just now attempting to master English to be considered for Hollywood films.

Henney plays David North, aka Agent Zero, in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," alongside Hugh Jackman (Wolverine, aka Logan) and Liev Schreiber (Victor Creed, Sabertooth). Agent Zero, part of a CIA special-ops team, is an expert marksman and has uncanny tracking skills. Henney and Jackman were in South Korea last month to make appearances for fans.

Henney was a potential guest at HIFF several years ago, but due to schedule conflicts, he was not able to attend.

"Three Rivers", a new American TV drama starring heartthrob Daniel Henney, is set to air in the fall, according to the recently released CBS 2009-2010 primetime schedule.

The 29-year-old recently made his Hollywood debut in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" opposite Hugh Jackman, and had appeared in the pilot of Three Rivers.

In the upcoming medical drama about organ transplants, the Korean-American actor will play the role of Dr. David Lee, "a womanizing surgical resident who's broken as many hearts as he's replaced", according to a statement released by the broadcaster. His co-stars include Alex O'Loughlin ("Moonlight") and Katherine Moenning ("The L Word"), Julia Ormond ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button").

The former model rose to stardom here through the TV soap "My Lovely Samsoon" ("My Name is Kim Sam-soon") and romantic comedy "Seducing Mr. Perfect", and received critical acclaim for the film "My Father".

"Three Rivers" is scheduled to show at 8 p.m. Sundays on CBS.
